LET'S GO SOMEWHERE

THE.CIURDARS

Sam and Amanda Ciurdar are a husband and wife team of creatives living in Southern California. Sam is a full time filmmaker and works as a freelance photographer in tandem with Amanda. Together they are passionate about seeing the world and telling stories through their craft. Recently, they also founded "Adventure That Is Life" - an adventure-themed product brand that not only carries apparel, but also helps give back to a charity that helps rescue and rehabilitate children from sex trafficking.

WHAT'S INSIDE YOUR LANGLY?

SAM - Samsung NX1, Samsung NX500, 16-50mm S, 45mm 1.8, 85mm 1.4, extra batteries, portable chargers, iPad Mini, water, extra jacket (depending on season), and a beanie. AMANDA - Canon 6D, 50mm 1.8, 28mm 2.8, 100mm L 1.8, extra battery, jacket, beanie, chapstick, probably PB&J's, and... I keep my water in Sam's backpack ;)

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO EXPLORE?

Traveling has given us an insatiable appetite for exploring the wonders of the world. Our planet is so vast and offers so many unique landscapes and attributes that we can't help but want to explore it's every crevasse. It saddens us to know that there's so much of Earth that we may not ever see simply because our time here is limited, but that doesn't mean we won't die trying! ;) Our moment here is but a breath, so we are committed to making the most out of the time that is given to us.

WHERE DO YOU FIND YOUR INSPIRATION?

We simply love to be outside and on-the-go. It fuels us to capture any type of landscape and every type of moment. Like everyone, we still have unpleasant run-ins with "creator's block" - lack of creativity & lack of inspiration, and we know we have to be intentional to get out of that rut; going outside, or hanging out with other creatives helps us tremendously. Surround yourself with the people & things you love and things will naturally fall into place. This is why we've fallen in love with traveling so much, it's good for the heart, mind, and soul!

FILM VS DIGITAL?

Neither. Both are different and unique. It's like trying to compare sculpting with clay or marble, both can create beautiful pieces - but in the end they're both art. Sam's background is in filmmaking and shooting digitally, so that naturally evolved into shooting digital for photography as well.

WHAT'S YOUR MOST MEMORABLE PHOTO?

Sam - I love to show scale, so when we traveled to Iceland, I shot my friend in front of the "instafamous" and mighty Skogafoss. I love how small this images makes me feel & displays the power and size of this majestic waterfall. Amanda -We magically stumbled upon this keyhole in Oregon & it happened to be during sunset. The way the tangible light poured through the keyhole left us in complete awe. It looked like a portal to another world. I will never forget this moment, 2 years later, it is still one of my favorite shots and cherished memories.
